Can you guess these French conversations?
In this episode, you’ll learn how to suggest activities using different expressions. Listen and try to guess these short conversations. They’re all centered about going away for the weekend.
#1 Conversation
Personne 1: Je suis tellement stressée par le travail ! J’ai besoin de prendre une pause.
Personne 2: Je te comprends. Essaie d’aller à la campagne ce week-end ?
Personne 1: C’est une bonne idée ! Je vais réserver un billet de train.
Translation:
Person 1: I’m so stressed at work! I need a break.
Person 2: I hear you. Try going to the country this weekend?
Person 1: That’s a great idea! I’m going to book a train ticket.
Remember:
Avoir besoin de/d’ + non-conjugated verb: To need such as ‘j’ai besoin de prendre une pause.’
Essayer de/d’ + non-conjugated verb: To try + verb-ing such as ‘essaie de partir.’
Aller + non-conjugated verb: Near future To go to +verb for an upcoming action
#2 Conversation
Personne 1: Tu as envie de faire une escapade à la campagne ce week-end ?
Personne 2: Super idée ! On va où ?
Personne 1: Je connais un petit village en Normandie. On pourrait faire de la randonnée, aller au marché, et de la dégustation de produits locaux.
Personne 2: Ça a l’air parfait ! Je réserve les billets de train.
Translation:
Person 1: Do you feel like taking a country getaway this weekend?
Person 2: Great idea! Where are we going?
Person 1: I know a little village in Normandy. We could go hiking, go to the farm market, and taste the local products.
Person 2: Sounds perfect! I’ll book the train tickets.
Remember:
Avoir envie de + non-conjugated verb: To feel like, to want, would like to, to fancy such as ‘Tu as envie de faire une escapade’
Une escapade ce week-end = a weekend getaway
Connaitre + something/somewhere/someone
On va où ? = Spoken French for ‘Where are we going?’
On pourrait + non-conjugated verb:: How about + verb-ing to suggest an activity such as ‘faire de la randonnée’
#3 Conversation practice:
You are person 2
Person 1: Tu as envie de faire de la randonnée ce week end ? = Would you like hiking this weekend?
Person 2: come up with your own answer
Person 1: On pourrait aller à la campagne ? = how about going to the countryside?
Person 2: come up with your own answer
Suggested answers:
Person 1: Tu as envie de faire de la randonnée ce week end ? = Would you like hiking this weekend?
Person 2: Super idée ! On va où ?
