Bonjour, today, how to improve your French pronunciation! I will teach you how to improve Improve your French pronunciation by linking words in French!

‘Liaison’ (linking) in French is the practice of taking the last letter of one word (which normally wouldn’t be pronounced) and linking it to the beginning of the next word.

This only happens when the second word begins with a vowel sound.

RULE 1 FOR FRENCH PRONUNCIATION: LINKING FRENCH WORDS

Do you have my bag? = Est-ce que vous↔avez mon sac ?

If the last letter of one word is ‘S’, ‘X’ or ‘Z’, then you pronounce
The sound /Z/ between the two words.

Practice
Est-ce que vous↔avez mon portefeuille ? =Est-ce que vous zavez mon portefeuille ?
J’ai des↔emails =J’ai des zemails
J’aime les↔olives =J’aime les zolives
Je veux marcher avec mes↔amis= Je veux marcher avec mes zamis
Je vais↔aux↔urgences =Je vais zaux zurgences

RULE 2 FOR LINKING FRENCH WORDS

J’ai un↔ami = I have a friend
J’ai une↔idée = I have an idea

If the last letter of one word is ‘N’ or ‘NE’ then you pronounce
The sound /N/ between the two words

Est-ce que vous↔avez mon↔ordinateur ? = Est-ce que vous↔avez mon nordinateur ?
Je veux↔un↔abricot = Je veux↔un nabricot
Je veux manger une↔olive =Je veux manger une nolive
Je peux visiter une↔église= Je peux visiter une néglise
Je veux prendre un↔uber= Je veux prendre un nuber
