French essential Sentences

The Emergency Room = Les urgences
Where are the ER? = Où sont les urgences ?
I don’t feel good = Je ne me sens pas bien
I need a doctor = J’ai besoin d’un docteur
I can’t breathe = Je ne peux pas respirer
I can’t see = Je ne peux pas voir
I twisted my ankle = J’ai la cheville tordue
A blood sample = Une prise de sang

Remember the sentence structure

I am hurt = J’ai mal
I am cold = J’ai froid
I am hot = J’ai chaud

I have + adverb+ feeling = J’ai + adverbe + feeling
Very = Très
A little = Un peu
A lot = Beaucoup

I am really hurt = J’ai très mal
I am a little cold = J’ai un peu froid
I am hot a lot = J’ai beaucoup chaud

Now, depending on noun gender (le+masculine noun, la+feminine noun)

J’ai mal au = If following noun is masculine
J’ai mal à la = If following noun is feminine

J’ai mal au genou = My knee hurts
J’ai mal à la dent = My tooth hurts
J’ai de la fièvre = I have a fever
J’ai mal à la tête = I have a headache
J’ai mal au ventre = My have a bellyache

And now, how to ask a question in French

First option
Three ways to ask a question

Do you have the same at home ?
The phrase est-ce que is used to ask a question. Word order stays just the same as it would in an ordinary sentence.

Est-ce que comes before the subject, and the verb comes after the subject. So to turn the sentence into a question, all you need to do is to add est-ce que.

Doctor’s questions
Est-ce que vous avez mal ? —Are you hurt?
Est-ce que c’est la première fois que ceci vous est arrivé ? — Is this the first time this has happened to you?
Est-ce que vous avez de la fièvre ? — Do you have a fever ?
Qu’est-ce qui ne va pas ? — What’s wrong?

Second Option
Three ways to ask a question

Do you have the same at home ?
Word order stays just the same as it would in an ordinary sentence.
The tonic accent will pitch higher.

So to turn the sentence into a question, all you need to do is to keep the same sentence order and change the pitch of you voice.

Doctor’s questions
Ça ne va pas ? — What’s wrong? (High pitch at the end on ‘pas’)
Vous avez mal ? —Are you hurt? (High pitch at the end on ‘pas’)
C’est la première fois que ceci vous est arrivé ? — Is this the first time this has happened to you? (High pitch at the end on ‘arrivé’)
Vous avez de la fièvre ? — Do you have a fever ? (High pitch at the end on ‘fièvre ’)

Third Option
Three ways to ask a question

Do you have the same at home ?
You switch the verbs and the subject. The remaining words order stay just the same.

So to turn the sentence into a question, all you need to do is to switch the verbs and the subject.

Doctor’s questions
Avez-vous mal ? —Are you hurt?
Est-ce la première fois que ceci vous est arrivé ? — Is this the first time this has happened to you? (High pitch at the end on ‘arrivé’)
Avez-vous de la fièvre ? — Do you have a fever ? (High pitch at the end on ‘fièvre ’)
