#1 Numbers You Absolutely Need To Know

In this section, we focus on the essential vocabulary you need to count with high numbers.

Dix = Ten. Do not voice the ‘X’ at the end of ‘Dix’ when followed by a consonant. Par exemples = je voudrais dix tomates.

Voice ‘Z’ at the end of ‘Dix’ when followed by a vowel. Par exemple = dix euros (pronunce dizuhro).

Cent = A hundred. Be careful when stating ‘One hundred’ since French only say ‘cent’ for ‘one hundred’.

And then, just like in English.

Deux cent = two hundred

Trois cent = Three hundred

(and so forth)

Par exemple : J’ai acheté ces chaussures cent euros =I bought this shoes one hundred euros.

Mille = A thousand. Be careful when stating ‘One thousand’ since French only say ‘mille’ for ‘one thousand’.

Par exemple : Ce billet d’avion coûte mille euros = This plane ticket is one thousand euros.

And then, just like in English.

deux mille = two thousand

trois mille = three thousand

Pay attention to the pronunciation and make sure to voice the ‘L’ sound.
