Choisir is a verb ending in -IR with a regular patterns i.e each subject has a matching ending. By knowing how to match the subject and the endings, you will be able to use other verbs such as remplir (to fill), réussir (to succeed, to manage), finir (to finish), etc..

#1 First step = find the stem for Choisir

To use a French verb, you have to find the stem. For that, you only need to drop the –IR at the end of the verb.
